Ing. Jannette Pérez Barbosa, mentor of the IISE Tainos Chapter #698 chapter, works in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management of the Gurabo Campus since 2010. She has a bachelor's degree (Magna Cum Laude) and a master's degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico , Mayagüez enclosure. She is currently completing a PhD in Systems Engineering from Colorado State University (CSU). During her university year, she was Vice-President of the Association of Industrial Engineering Graduate Students and a member of student associations such as IISE and ASQ. Currently, she is a “senior” member of IISE, a distinction offered to professionals with extensive professional experience.
Jannette has 17 years of experience in process improvement and professional training. She worked for General Electric in the Quality department, supporting product transfers and the implementation of the ISO quality system. She also served as Technical Services Specialist at Pfizer, from where she led initiatives for process improvement, statistical analysis, simulations and training associated with continuous improvement. She was awarded the Global Excellence Award for continuous improvement initiatives to support the manufacture of Celebrex. Additionally, she has had the opportunity to offer training and consulting for companies in the service area related to the automotive industry, sales and legal services.
In addition to being a Licensed Engineer (PE), she serves as a trainer for the professional Reválida reviews at the College of Engineers and Surveyors of Puerto Rico. The Assembly of 2018 was dedicated for its contribution to the development of the educational component of the institute. She has also been awarded at the CIAPR as Emerging Leader and Woman of Vanguardia and recognized several times for her contributions as a trainer. She has participated in several international conferences including those organized by: Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers and American Society for Engineering Education. Her professional certifications include: Lean Six Sigma Train the trainer, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt, in addition, passed the CQA and CQE exams for quality professionals.
Among the courses taught by Jannette there is the Design (Capstone) project that demonstrates the ability to apply the techniques learned by students during their career. These projects have been widely recognized with the following awards: ORO - Quest University (2019), 2nd and 3rd place in CIAPR (2019) and 1st and 2nd place in CIAPR (2018). In 2018, she was recognized as an outstanding Professor of the School of Engineering in the Gurabo Campus. She has been an IISE mentor since 2016 and has been part of the award-winning team of the last 3 IISE GOLD awards.
Jannette is originally from the town of Lares and likes to look for outstanding people in all branches of life. She is a "cat person", although she appreciates all pets. Among her least known hobbies is watching sci-fi series from the 90s. Something you might not know is that her dream trip is to Iceland, to see all the natural charms of that country like the Blue Lagoon and the midnight sun. Among the people she would like to meet, is oceanographer Robert Ballard, who found the remains of the Titanic in 1985.
